After reading this book, students should write ten facts they learned about Washington as Commander-in-Chief. These facts should be handwritten on notebook paper and in complete sentences. Do not begin sentences with “He.”
In Addition to Reading the Above Two Books, students should also create an informative poster on any national landmark (e.g., Niagara Falls, Appalachian Trail, Everglades, White House, Mt. Rushmore, Sequoia National Park, Grand Canyon, etc). The information could be gathered from library books, reference books, personal visits or the Internet. The poster is due the second day of school. All narratives and illustrations must be the students’ work.

Over the summer, all sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students will be required to read two novels. Each novel has been carefully chosen and is age appropriate. When we break for the summer, students will be given a test for one of the novels; the completed test is due on the first day back to school. The other book will be tested on the first Friday after students return.
