SCIENCE
The science program in grades 1 and 2 is an exploratory concept, through observations and model making.  The Scott Foresman Discover the Wonder series is used as the main text in Grades 3 through 5.  In Grades 6 through 8, the Holt Science & Technology text is used along with the Science-plus interactive CD-ROM series.  “Stream-Watch” as a Life Science tool is the main curriculum for the 7th grade and the five Spheres of the Earth’s influence is the main curriculum for the 8th grade.

The Science program, as part of the total educational process, strives to insure that each student will have the opportunity to become scientifically literate.  The students develop attitudes, process skills, and the concepts necessary to understanding a technical environment and the decision making process.  The scientific method of reporting is emphasized for grades 3 through 8.

Field trips to the Ashland Nature Center, the Museum of Natural History, Cape Henelopen State Park, the Brandywine Creek State Park, the Iron Hill Museum and visits from our local scientific community offer students a foundation in science in order to fulfill their obligations to society and to their creator.
