ST. CATHERINE OF SIENA SCHOOL NEWS
is communicated between school and home through the use of a "Friday Folder" system.  Each week student information including the weekly school newsletter, tests, classwork, written announcements, etc., are brought home with students on Friday via the folder.  Items requiring signature or other notes/payments, etc., may be sent back to school via the folder on Monday.

The Interim and Trimester Progress Reports will be distributed and transported home via this system at appropriate times throughout the year, as well.

A  copy of the current week's school newsletter can be found below:

                          SCHOOL REOPENS SEPTEMBER 2, 2008!

SCHOOL LITURGY:  Our final School Mass of this school year will be celebrated on Friday, June 13th at 9:00 am.  Please join us in the celebration of the Feast of St. Anthony of Padua.  All students are reminded to bring a canned good for the Offertory collection.

CATHOLIC CHARITIES:  This organization needs help from St. Catherine’s Parish during the month of June.  Please bring non-perishable items to help stock their pantries.  They are especially in need during the summer season.  Items can be left on the screened-in porch of our Pastoral Center.  Thank you for your support.

PRE-K PROGRAM:  We are reminding families that we will open a Pre-K Program next year for children who will be four-years-old by August 31, 2008.  The Pre-K will be a full day, five days a week.  Tuition will be charged at the same rate as current tuition rates.  If you are interested in the program or know someone who is, please contact the school office for an application.

PSA NIGHT AT THE BLUE ROCKS:  Friday, June 13th, PSA will run a concession booth at Frawley Stadium for a “Night at the Blue Rocks”.  We are still very much in need of volunteers to work the concession stand.  Please call Jen Barrasso at 368-7877.  A portion of the sales will benefit our PSA budget.  Please come out and support our school and cheer our local baseball team.  We promise a fun night!

YEARBOOKS:  By all accounts, this year’s book is a great success.  If you didn’t pre-order a book and would still like to receive one, there are still a few left in the office.  They are being sold on a first-come, first-served basis at the post-publication price of $36.00.  They are going fast so don’t delay...get yours today!

FESTIVAL COMMITTEE:  The Festival Committee would like to ask each child to sell five (5) tickets to the $1,000 raffle.  Each ticket is $1.00.  Please mail or return the ticket stubs, with the money, to the Parish Center office.  You may drop them off or mail them.  Thank you for your help and support.

OOPS!:  Our most humble apologies go out to Jaclyn Harkins whose name was entered incorrectly at the bottom of Page 55 in the Yearbook as a member of the Johns Hopkins Talent Search Group.  It should read Jaclyn Harkins NOT Jaclyn Harris.  Sorry for the oversight, Jaclyn.

MEDICATION PICK UP:  All medications here at school must be picked up on the LAST DAY OF SCHOOL, WHICH IS JUNE 13TH!   A parent or guardian must come to the nurse’s office to claim the medicines.  A student cannot pick up his/her medicine.  All medicines not claimed must be discarded.

4TH GRADE PHYSICALS:  All students entering fourth grade in September need to have a physical examination prior to the first day of school.  You were sent a blank copy of the Physical Examination form in February.  If it has been misplaced and you need another copy, please contact the school nurse at 633-4905.

STUDENT INFORMATION FORM:  Just a reminder to please update your child’s emergency information in the “Corrections” column and return to the School office as soon as possible.  Thank you for your prompt response.

FREEZE POP SALE:  4th Grade sincerely thanks all students who supported their Freeze Pop sale.  They were able to have a grand finale with the residents at the Brandywine Nursing Home.  The extra money was donated to the St. Vincent de Paul fund and to St. Jude’s Children Hospital.  Thank you again!

THANK YOU FOR SENDING SCS TO WORLD FINALS!  The St. Catherine of Siena Odyssey of the Mind Team (Antonio Angelini, Vanessa Crumety, Rose Davis, Anna Nowak, Joseph Nowak, Emily Villacis, Juan Villacis) (Coaches:  Lisa Nowak & Maria Villacis) attended World Finals in Maryland from May 31st – June 3rd, thanks to the support of so many wonderful sponsors.  We would especially like to thank:

Thanks, too, to everyone who supported the Odyssey of the Mind team through the purchase of Sandollar cards, soft pretzels, and dress down days at school.  The team received tremendous support from the entire parish and school community.  Fr. Hynes, Mrs. Ruff, Mrs. Swayne, all the teachers and staff were so helpful, as always!

Our students competed against teams from states across the U.S., and from countries as far away as Poland, Singapore and Hong Kong.  It was an amazing experience, and our students represented Delaware and St. Catherine’s proudly.  Thank you all for making this possible!
