ADMISSIONS PROCEDURES FOR NEW STUDENTS

1)  Children entering St. Catherine of Siena at the Kindergarten level must be five (5) years of age by August 31st as required by the State.  Final acceptance into the program will be contingent upon the results of principal/pastor interviews and Readiness screening.  All students applying for first grade must have completed a year of Kindergarten.  

2)  All children entering Kindergarten, First Grade (if not done in Kindergarten), Fourth Grade and new entrants from out of state are required by the Diocese of Wilmington to have a physical examination.  Effective September, 2004, children entering a school in Delaware must have the following immunizations or screenings:  


a)  5 or more doses of DTaP, DTP, or TD vaccine (unless 4th dose was given
    after the 4th birthday)
b)  4 doses of IPV or OPV (unless 3rd dose was given after the 4th birthday)
c)  2 doses of MMR Vaccine (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella)
d)  3 doses of Hepatitis B Vaccine (Grades K-5 and 7-8)
e) 1 dose of Varicella is required for (Grades K and 1)
f)  Mantoux tuberculin skin test completed within the past 12 months.
g)  Lead testing documentation for children age 5 or younger.


New students are granted 14 days from first date of attendance to show proof of these immunizations and screenings.  Students not in compliance at the end of this 14 day period shall be excluded from school until requirements are fulfilled.

3)  Copies of Birth Certificates and Baptismal Certificates are required.

4)  Students seeking admission to St. Catherine of Siena School are tested for
placement in the school’s program.  Before admission is determined parent interviews will be conducted.      

5) For Kindergarten admission parent interviews are conducted with principal/pastoral staff.  For Grades 1-6 parent interviews will be a part of the admission process.  Grades 7-8 parent/student interviews will take place prior to admission.

6)  Students wishing to enter grades 2 through 8 must present the records mentioned above as well as their academic transcripts (report card, standardized test results) from their former school.  Admission will proceed when all information is reviewed by the principal with the student’s parents.
